I’ve been looking for a new job the past few months. Now that I’ve found one, I can share some of my gripes from the journey.
1. We only contact candidates selected
This is my biggest gripe of all. I don’t mind if you don’t reply when I mail an info@ address I found on the website. But when you’re using recruitment software, actively asking people to apply, why is it so hard to have the software email me back to say I didn’t make it? This issue is the root of many of the following gripes.
2. Please check out our blog
Why? There’s a good chance you’re gonna ghost me (see 1). Why am I spending any more time learning about you before we’ve even got to a first interview? Yes it’s good to learn about a company, but when you’re not a pedigree developer, finding a new job is a numbers game. Besides, none of the companies I was applying for were pedigree companies.
3. Don’t reply this mailbox is unmonitored
We care so much about you. Definitely read our blog to learn how great we are, while we completely ignore you. /s
Again, recruitment software. Filter out the noise. The vast majority of companies I applied to were using some sort of software. Why do we still have noreply@ addresses.
